What's included in the MIT Technology Review app?

The MIT Technology Review app is available in Apple and Google Play app stores, as of version 2.4 for Android and version 2.5 for iOS. The app is free to download and includes 2 free stories to read without a subscription. You can purchase a subscription on TechnologyReview.com or directly through the app for unlimited access.

What's included with an MIT Technology Review subscription?

All subscribers and MIT Alumni receive unlimited access to MIT Technology Review’s award-winning journalism, in the app and on TechnologyReview.com.

When you purchase a subscription in the MIT Technology Review app, you’ll also receive unlimited access to TechnologyReview.com and enjoy other subscriber-only benefits such as:

You can view and purchase all subscription types, including Digital + Print subscriptions, on our website or purchase directly through your app store for easy digital access. Please note that if you purchase through your app store you must cancel your subscription there. We do not have the ability to cancel app store subscriptions.

I already have a subscription. How can I access the app?

Your subscription includes unlimited access to all our platforms. If you already have an active app subscription, you will automatically receive unlimited access to the app on your device. If you purchased a subscription on TechnologyReview.com or another way, there are two ways you can access your subscription in the app:

  1. Sign in to your existing online account:
    • Open the MIT Technology Review app
    • Select the “More” tab in the bottom navigation bar on your screen
    • Select the “Sign In” option under Account
    • On the pop up message, click “Continue” to allow the sign in screen to appear 
    • Enter your TechnologyReview.com login credentials and check “Keep me signed in” to stay signed in on the app
    • Once you’re signed in, you will have unlimited access to the app
  2. Create your new online account:
    • Open the MIT Technology Review app
    • Select the “More” tab in the bottom navigation bar on your screen
    • Select the “Sign In” option under Account
    • On the pop up message, click “Continue” to allow the sign in screen to appear
    • Click the “Create an account” link at the top of your screen
    • Enter the email address for your subscription and a password
      1. If you are MIT Alumni, select “Yes” for the MIT affiliated question
      2. If you are not MIT Alumni, select “No”
    • After you create your account, you will receive a verification email to your inbox. You must click the link in this email to complete your account set up. The link expires within 24 hours and you will need to go through this process again if you do not verify within that time frame.

NOTE: If you created your online account before January 2022, you will need to create your online account again. This includes all subscribers and MIT Alumni.

MIT ALUMNI: Please follow additional instructions to link your MIT Technology Review account to your Infinite Connection account.

I already have an app subscription. Can I access the new app?

Users who previously subscribed to the legacy MIT Technology Review app can still use their subscription and get unlimited access to the new app. If you currently have an active app subscription, you will automatically receive unlimited access to the new app version when you update it on your device.

If you’re app subscription has expired, you can re-subscribe:

  • Open the MIT Technology Review app
  • Select the “More” tab in the bottom navigation bar on your screen
  • Select the “Subscribe” option under Account
  • Choose which subscription offer you want 
  • After purchase, you will immediately have unlimited access to the app

I have an app subscription. How do I get access to all platforms?

You can link your app subscription to access all MIT Technology Review platforms. 

To link your app subscription:

  • Open the MIT Technology Review app
  • Select the “More” option in the navigation bar
  • Select the “Link subscription” option under Account
  • Confirm to link your subscription on the pop up message
  • Enter your email address and a password 
  • Once you create your account, you will receive a verification email to your inbox. You must click the link in this email to complete your MIT Technology Review account set up. The link expires within 24 hours and you will need to go through this process again if you do not verify within that time frame.
  • After your account is verified, you can login to any of our platforms and enjoy unlimited access.

I purchased a subscription through the app store. How can I cancel my subscription?

All subscriptions purchased through Apple or Google can be canceled directly on your device. Please note that we cannot cancel these subscriptions for you.

To cancel your app subscription in the app:

  • Open the MIT Technology Review app 
  • Select the “More” option in the menu
  • Select “Manage my subscription” under Account
  • Click the “Cancel Subscription” option on your screen

You can also cancel your subscription in your Apple or Google account. This can be found under your subscriptions in your account settings.

Due to app store policies, we cannot give refunds for subscriptions purchased through Apple or Google. If you choose to cancel your subscription, you will continue to receive access to the app until your subscription end date.

I am an MIT Alumni. How can I access the app?

All MIT Alumni receive access to the app, included with their complementary MIT Technology Review subscription. You must connect your Infinite Connection account to your MIT Technology Review account to get access.

NOTE: If you connected your account before January 2022, you will need to re-create your MIT Technology Review account and connect it again. 

If you already connected your Infinite Connection account to MIT Technology Review:

  • Open the MIT Technology Review app
  • Select the “More” tab in the bottom navigation bar on your screen
  • Select the “Sign In” option under Account
  • On the pop up message, click “Continue” to allow the sign in screen to appear
  • Enter your TechnologyReview.com login credentials and check “Keep me signed in” to stay signed in on the app
  • You will be redirected back to the app and now have unlimited access 

If you have not connected your Infinite Connection account to MIT Technology Review:

  • Open the MIT Technology Review app
  • Select the “More” tab in the bottom navigation bar on your screen
  • Select the “Sign In” option under Account
  • On the pop up message, click “Continue” to allow the sign in screen to appear
  • Click the “Create an account” link at the top of your screen
  • Enter your email address and a password; Select “Yes” for the MIT affiliated question and check “Keep me signed in” to stay signed in on the app
  • Once you create your account, close out of the pop up window and go back to the “More” section in the app menu
  • Select the “MIT Alumni activation” option under Account
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to link your new MIT Technology Review account to your Infinite Connection account
  • Once successfully connected, you will receive a verification email to your inbox. You must click the link in this email to complete your MIT Technology Review account set up. The link expires within 24 hours and you will need to go through the account creation and connection process again if you do not verify within that time frame.
  • After you have verified your account, you can enjoy unlimited access to all our platforms

I'm experiencing technical issues in the app. How can I fix it?

If you are experiencing technical difficulties with the MIT Technology Review app, please try the following steps to get up and running again:

  • Ensure you are using our latest app (black title on white background)
  • Close and re-open the app
  • Restart your device
  • Ensure you are using the latest version. This can be done by checking for updates in your app store.
  • Clear the app cache. This can be done by going to More, then tapping and holding the version number until the confirmation message appears.
  • If the above steps do not work, please delete and reinstall the app using a strong WiFi signal (please bear in mind this may remove previously saved content).
