InformationWeek has an interesting story about Microsoft’s HoneyMonkey project, in which a number of computers automatically scan the Internet, hit websites, and see if the websites try to exploit flaws in Internet Explorer. In the first month, the honeymonkeys found 752 urls operated by 287 websites that can compromise unpatched Windows XP PCs. So far, they have discovered a single website that could break into a machine that was completely patched.
It just shows you, it’s worthwhile to run Windows Update every day – or to tell your computer to automatically download and install patches.
Don’t settle for half the story.
