Ever wonder what your kids are eating at school? I know my mom used to go to great pains to make sure I had a big, healthy lunch – which I immediately traded to my friends for cheeseburgers, chocolate, and any other grease- and sugar-related food I could find.
Now, using an electronic payment system, parents can check up on the food their children are eating in school, according to this Associated Press story.
As a former teacher, I’m far more interested in how this can apply to homework and other school-related paperwork that needs to get finished (such as, when do we see online homework which parents and teachers can both monitor?). And while I’m not a huge fan of technologies that turn over information that should be private to a centralized database, I think – on initial blush – I’m okay with parents knowing what their children are buying and eating at school.
