Here’s the way we ought to do it: The environmental group Friends of the Earth has presented the Bristol (U.K.) airport with a bill for climate change as the airport prepares for flights to New York City. FOE says flights from the city airport are producing 580,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, and that 344 square miles of trees need to be planted to compensate for the emissions. FOE campaigners drew up the bill after Andrew Skipp, Managing Director of Bristol International Airport, said in March that “Bristol International Airport is prepared to pay its environmental costs.” We’ll see if they keep their word.
