Kara Presbrey ’16 models a dress designed by Alissa Borshchenko ’16 for the MIT Trashion Show in December. Borshchenko zip-tied popsicle sticks to a corset she’d made of cardboard and sewed ruffles of folded packaging paper onto a window screen she’d cut into a circle skirt. She used man-made forms of organic materials—most of which came from one large Amazon box—to represent the highly dependent but tenuous connection between man and nature. Started by Karen Hao ’15 in her dorm in 2011, the annual show is now hosted by the Undergraduate Association Sustainability Council.
