In December, MIT Asian Dance Team members Meryem T. Ok ’15 (left) and Sichu Jiang, CME ’15, danced “The Moonlit Lotus” at the team’s fall showcase. The program also included a classic-modern fusion piece with swords, a routine by the MIT Lion Dance group, and a dose of K-pop, or South Korean pop music.
For those inspired by the shows to try out some moves themselves, the Asian Dance Team offered workshops in hip-hop and traditional dance during IAP.
Founded in 2009, the team has 65 members. “Most join without any prior dance experience, and it’s a very special thing to see them master advanced techniques,” says team co-president Sally Lin ’15. “It’s like watching your family grow.”
