India-based outsourcing giant Infosys announced today that it will open a new U.S. software development center and hire 2,000 workers in the U.S. this year as it expands operations here. The new center in Milwaukee will help serve a five-year IT contract with motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson.
The news is an interesting reversal of the well-worn outsourcing narrative of U.S. jobs relocating offshore. The Wall Street Journal reports that Infosys’s foreign workers are having trouble obtaining necessary visas to enter the United States in order to work with domestic customers. The company’s total headcount is 150,000.
