White Named President-Elect
New board members begin July 1
Chiquita V. White ‘85 begins her year as president-elect July 1; her term as president will begin in 2012. White began volunteering for MIT shortly after she earned her degree in chemical engineering. She has served as president of the Black Alumni of MIT and as a member of reunion and reunion gift committees, the Alumni Association Board of Directors, and the MIT Corporation. A resident of Newtown, Connecticut, she began working for Procter & Gamble in 1987 and is currently a product development section head. Her responsibilities include the holistic design of hair-care products and global technologies.
Mark P. Gorenberg ‘76, a new vice president, is an active volunteer and leader in the MIT Club of Northern California. Since 2001, Gorenberg has served as a term member of the MIT Corporation, chairing the Linguistics and Philosophy Visiting Committee. He is a managing director of Hummer Winblad Venture Partners.
Five new members join MIT Alumni Association board
Bruce A. Blomstrom ‘59, SM ‘62, is active with both his class (he played a key role in 50th-reunion activities) and the MIT Club of Southern California. A former board member, he is president of the Pasadena Bioscience Collaborative, an incubator for early-stage life science companies.

James Eric Geshwiler, MBA ‘00, managing director of the Massachusetts angel capital group Common Angel and a resident of Lexington, has moderated MIT Enterprise Forum panels and helped develop the forum’s relationship with the Kauffman Foundation. He serves as a career advisor for the Sloan Alumni Association and as a mentor for the $100K competition.
Claude L. Gerstle ‘68 won the Henry B. Kane ‘24 Award for his leadership as cochair of the Class of 1968’s 40th-reunion gift committee and has contributed to class and club programming in New Jersey and Florida. He has also been involved in class fund-raising and served on the MIT Corporation as an alumni nominee. He is a retired ophthalmologist.
Mary V. Motto ‘93, a law student at St. John’s University, is a leader in the Club of Long Island and involved in her sorority, Alpha Chi, and the Educational Council. Before law school, Motto worked for Accenture as a consultant to some of the world’s top technological and financial companies.
Sanjay K. Rao ‘02, MNG ‘03, of Palo Alto, California, is the young alumni member of the MITAA board. As a student, Rao held several posts in the Undergraduate Association; he was elected as a recent graduate member of the MIT Corporation, serving on the audit committee and three visiting committees. At Norwest Venture Partners, he focuses on consumer Internet and mobile products.
