A handful of products already make it possible to start a computer in seconds, but unlike the competition, Presto doesn’t need to be integrated into a computer’s hardware by the manufacturer. Simply download Presto–essentially a stripped-down Linux operating system–and within 10 seconds of booting up the system, you can get online to do simple things like check e-mail, use Skype, and send instant messages. Presto became available in April.
