MIT ranks fourth overall among U.S. universities–as well as first in undergraduate engineering and second in undergraduate business programs–in the 2007 edition of America’s Best Colleges, U.S. News and World Report’s annual guidebook. MIT shares the number-four slot with Caltech and Stanford, following Princeton, Harvard, and Yale. Among the key criteria for judging schools are selectivity (MIT’s acceptance rate is 14 percent) and class size (68 percent of MIT classes have fewer than 20 students).
