An Oregon man’s digital TV was unplugged for sending out RF on the International Distress Frequency of 121.5 MHz, according to Newsday.com.

Hmm. How could that happen? To answer that, you’ll need to check out this entry in Strata Chalup’s LiveJournal, where techno-geeks discuss harmonics and CCIR frequencies and things like that.

It’s fun reading, and we’re likely to see more of these TV sets crying “help” as digital TV becomes more commonplace. But the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has said that as of 2009, it will stop monitoring 121.5 MHz in favor of a new digital system running at 407 MHz. And that will be a costly upgrade for most aircraft owners.
