Bob Sullivan at MSNBC writes of a new computer virus that turns on webcams and sends out the contents to willing hackers. Sounds like something the FBI would have dreamed up, but it’s probably just for finding new sources of porn…
This is one of the reason that I always liked webcams that have physical shutters on them–Apple’s iSight didn’t have them originally, but the new ones do.
Silicon Graphics recognized this vulnerability back in the early 1990s, but shutterless webcams save money.
