Adobe revealed on January 10th that it had added anti-counterfeit software to Adobe Photoshop CS. Briefly, this software makes Photoshop notice if you have scanned in money and refuse to work properly with it.

Similar software has been in high-end color photocopiers for years, but this is the first time that it was apparently put into a consumer software product.

Digit, the magazine for Digital Creatives, has a brief notice about the technology, with space for commenting. ZDNet has a more extensive article.

This blog has some nice discussions of the implications of this for Open Source programs like GIMP.
