I couldn’t make this up if I tried. According to an article in the Associated Press by Ted Bridis,, the FBI has urged police to look for people who are carrying almanacs, saying that terrorists may use the reference books “to assist with target selection and preoperational planning.”

Interestingly, the only refernce to almanacs that I could find on the FBI’s website is this 1996 article by Captain Andrew J. Harvey of the Covina, California, Police Department, urging that “law enforcement agencies must prepare now to meet the challenges of policing in the 21st century.”

Next thing you know, the FBI’s going to be going after people using web browsers.
