Product Designer (UI)

The Product Designer will play a central role in shaping the user interface of MITTR’s digital ecosystem, ranging from editorial tools to the reader facing web presences, digital magazines, and marketing tools.

They will take projects from conceptual questions all the way through pixel-perfect visuals—along the way developing an extensible process that brings excellence regardless of project timeline. In addition to UI and interaction design talent, success in this role is dependent on the ability to take initiative to propose new digital experiences.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):

User interface design

  • Interpret brand elements into clean, clear, and balanced user interface elements through the lens of a demonstrated modern creative vision
  • Deliver user interface design solutions that leverage typography, iconography, visual composition, and interaction and animation/motion design best practices
  • Illustrate and articulate design ideas using conceptual wireframes, storyboards, information architecture diagrams, high-fidelity mockups, interaction specifications, and final graphics
  • Create and maintain a set of design and visual patterns to strengthen consistency across our organization's products, innovating and expanding team standards to create world-class experiences
  • Rapidly iterate through multiple concepts and prototypes; knowing when to apply pixel-perfect attention to detail and when to produce lower-fidelity sketches and prototypes
  • Create new user-centered designs by understanding current business requirements and leveraging latest customer feedback and analytics data
  • Deliver prototypes and clear requirements to describe interactions and motion to enhance UI
  • Manage own workload and project pipeline to execute UI design on track with the team’s software roadmap

  • Propose and champion designs solutions and process improvements that scale when appropriate

Communication

  • Communicate design concepts visually, clearly, and concisely across different audiences and varying levels of the organization, adopted appropriately for stakeholder
  • Work cross-functionally with product and engineering partners to articulate design needs and ensure the highest quality implementation
  • Clearly and concisely communicate user needs (e.g. storytelling, leveraging data) and demonstrate how proposed designs solve those needs to technology team and external stakeholders
  • QA developed software for visual perfection and provide detailed feedback to engineers towards revisions
  • Design and maintain design systems and libraries to ensure product-wide visual consistency

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in digital product design
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent practical work experience in design, fine arts, or related field
  • Proficiency with user interface design software like Sketch, Figma, Principle, Flinto, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of user-centered design principles in context of current industry standards and trends in UI/UX design, interaction design patterns, and cross-platform responsive design
  • Exceptional visual design skills along with a keen eye for details and a modern design aesthetic
  • Experience in prototyping UI interactivity and in incorporating motion/animation into UI
  • Willingness and ability to propose design ideas that exceed expectations and take risks
