Wired News reports that the source code to the Sequoia Voting Systems electronic voting machine was found on an FTP server operated by Jaguar Computer Systems. This happened to Diebold Election Systems’ AccuVote-TS software earlier this year. But whereas the Diebold software was written in C, the Sequoia code is written in …. Visual Basic.

That’s right. Elections are going to be decided by a program written in Visual Basic.

The real travesty here, though, is that people think that information put in public directories of FTP servers is somehow secure, as long as nobody is told about them. How could that be?
