Arianna Huffington’s uber-blog went live today, with commentary from a variety of well known names (although no way to talk back), including Hilary Rosen who, God bless her, rants about Steve Jobs, iPods, and iTunes.
I’ve been railing against this nasty set-up since it went live, despite the desperate attempts by Mac users to tell me that this system was the end-all-beat-all in digital music. While I can appreciate Mac-addicts who never want to use anything that isn’t created by Jobs, for consumers, this type of closed device is exactly what is wrong with digital information.
I enjoyed Hilary’s company when she worked with the RIAA, even when we disagreed on the future of the business. In this case, though, there is no disagreeing (well, except that I’d never own an iPod, not with Nokia’s smart phone that holds 3,000 mp3s coming out this year).
