Creating a Heart

Doris Taylor, director of the center for cardiovascular repair at the University of Minnesota, discusses her groundbreaking technique for creating new hearts in the lab. Taylor and her team take animal hearts and strip them of cells. Then they inject the resulting scaffolds with new cells, forming a construct that begins to beat on its own.
