Researchers in MIT’s Lifelong Kindergarten group designed the simplified programming language Scratch to allow kids to build their own games. Researcher Andres Monroy-Hernandez, who maintains the Scratch website, says that community members typically comment on one another’s work, help fix bugs, and “creatively appropriate” other work on the site. He says that Kill the Computer, shown here, was the starting point for a class of Scratch games in which the object is to smash something.
