Description text

Bony deep-sea fish with thick scales and limblike fins, coelacanths are the last living members of the Crossopterygii, a group of fishes believed to have given rise to amphibians and all land-dwelling vertebrates. The Broad will sequence the coelacanth genome in the hope that it holds clues to the developmental changes that made possible those first steps onto dry land.
