February 23, 1969: For a countdown test, Rusty Schweickart wears the extravehicular mobility unit (EMU) that he will use when venturing outside the aircraft for 47 minutes during the Apollo 9 mission. In addition to the space suit and bubble helmet, the EMU includes a portable life support system backpack, an oxygen purge system, and a remote control unit on his chest.
