Technology Review magazine seeks freelance fact-checker

Technology Review, an award-winning media company owned by MIT, seeks a freelance fact-checker for two to three weeks of work in mid-September. (There is also the prospect of more work in the future.) The fact checker will work on the November/December edition of the magazine, under the direction of our Research Editor.

The ideal candidate will have experience checking facts for a national magazine, and will have a proven ability to work with material that is scientific and technological.

IT Editor

Technology Review, a national magazine and website owned by MIT, is looking for an experienced IT editor. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented, driven journalist to help shape a key area of our coverage. The role will involve working with senior staff to develop story ideas and produce two to three articles a week for the website, as well as blog posts and occasional pieces for the print magazine. The successful candidate will also commission stories from freelance reporters to complete our coverage.

This is a full-time position, located in our San Francisco, CA bureau.

Technology Review offers an intellectually charged, creative work environment with competitive compensation and benefits.

Major responsibilities:
  • Develop ideas and write original stories about developments in IT and computer science for the website.
  • Identify new freelance writers for the website.
  • Write occasional articles for the print publication.
  • Commission feature articles from freelance writers, and edit these articles.
  • Work closely with the Web designer to find images to accompany articles.
Minimum requirements:
  • At least two years of experience as a science or technology writer, with a focus on IT and computer science. Demonstrated excellence in writing and editing.
  • The ability to write and edit stories that will satisfy a demanding, intelligent, diverse, and progressive audience.
  • The ability to push forward, execute and complete projects while maintaining positive relationships.
  • BA/BS in science or technology or the equivalent required. Graduate degree in journalism desirable.
