On September 29, the MIT Museum will bring science down a level. To street level, that is. The museum has added more than 5,000 square feet of space--and a highly visible ground-floor entrance on the corner of Mass. Ave. and Front Street.

Inside, visitors will find the new Mark Epstein '63 Innovation Gallery--devoted to fast-changing exhibits on current science and technology--and a media wall with live links to research labs at MIT and around the world. "With this major expansion, the museum will establish a bold public presence on lower Mass. Ave.," says museum director John Durant. "For the first time, we'll have enough space to feature highlights of some of the most exciting current research and innovation here at MIT." First up: the Media Lab's City Car, remote-controlled underwater exploration vehicles, and the zebrafish as a cancer research model.
