Personal Genomes
Individual sequencing could be around the corner.

The Human Genome Project's working draft sequence, which was completed to much fanfare in June 2000, took about a dozen years and more than $300 million to complete. The result was a composite map of the DNA from several people-a sort of averaged genetic picture of a human. But a growing number of companies are working on advanced technologies that could make it possible to have your own individual genome sequenced in a day, perhaps for as little as a few thousand dollars.
